Our lawyer Maria Paula Carvalho Molinar has written an article for Folha de S.Paulo’s “What kind of tax is this?” blog. In the text, she reflects on the impact of the Tax Reform on the taxation of the ITCMD (Causa Mortis and Donation Transfer Tax) on large estates. This tax, which is levied on the transfer of assets through donation or death, has been increasingly on the radar of tax authorities. With the aim of increasing tax collection, state inspectors and even the legislature have been paying close attention to this tax. In the state of São Paulo, for example, there are seven inspection operations related to the tax, all of which aim to verify the correct declaration, calculation and payment of the tax to the São Paulo tax authorities.
